STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE CARDIOTHORAIC SECTION OF
THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF MEDICINE
Dear colleague,
I write to advertise the position of STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE for the CARDIOTHORACIC SECTION of the ROYAL SOCIETY OF MEDICINE (http://www.rsm.ac.uk/academ/cta02.php).
The position is open to all UK medical students. The section meets twice per year to host meetings on the speciality of Cardiothoracic Surgery. International speakers and domestic experts provide insight into innovations within the speciality and clinical developments. At each meeting there is a poster and case presentation competition. In the past medical students have done very well in these, gained CV points and have even won national prizes.
To apply, please email a copy of your current CV and 150 words describing why you are interested in the position to cardiothoracic@rsm.ac.uk by 30th April 2010 . The Cardiothoracic Section Council members will review the applications and elect a student representative before the next meeting. The winner will be announced at the Meeting on 25th June 2010 (http://www.rsm.ac.uk/academ/cta02.php). In addition to being a member of the RSM, the student representative is expected to attend the biannual council meetings and will serve for 1 year before re-election. The student representative is responsible for communicating student matters to the section president and council.
All applicants are expected to register as a member of the RSM (http://www.rsm.ac.uk/membersh/joining.php) at the discounted student rate. This allows access to the RSM library in Wimpole Street in addition to free online access to the JRSM and many other journals. Members are also given discounts (15%) on a wide range of medical texts. 400 meetings are held (between all specialties) per year allowing a great opportunity to speak to junior and senior doctors and network. The RSM also has a students members group that organises revision programmes throughout the year (including the popular anatomy and OSCE sessions).
Best wishes,
David
